Calling Out the NBA Western Conference All-Starts

Okay, really people, is this a joke? Did you not read my article on who you should vote on to the All-Star team? This lineup is complete blasphemy, and I am going to tell you why, right now.

The Western Conference All-Star starting line up reads like a 1-team fantasy basketball league, where the one guy in it has still managed to pick a last-place quality team. In no way should the starting line up read like this:

  • G – Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
  • G – Allen Iverson, Denver Nuggets
  • C – Yao Ming, Houston Rockets
  • F – Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets
  • F – Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs

First of all, there is no way on God’s green earth that their should be two players from a team that is not in the playoffs as of right now, nor are they showing any signs of becoming a playoff team anytime soon. The very fact, that 2 players with enough talent to be regarded as possible All-Star starters are on the same team and aren’t in the “top half of the league” does irreparable damage to any All-Star starting merit that they may have had. But even outside of that, both Iverson and ‘Melo are being outplayed by other people at their position. The case for Melo isn’t as strong, as only Josh Howard is playing more efficiently than him at the small forward position, but even that is by a negligible amount. However, in terms of A.I., he is not even a "top 3" point guard in the West right now! With Chris Paul, Steve Nash and Baron Davis all having better seasons then him, A.I. maybe shouldn’t even be on this team, never mind starting the game!

And as much as I love Tim Duncan, this just is not his best season. Not that he looks less efficient, but he just isn’t playing the minutes or taking control of the offense, as we are accustomed to seeing him do. Carlos Boozer is having a far better year than Duncan is, and really deserved an All-Star spot based on his play on the court, and not his reputation, which is the only reason Timmy won the starting spot this season.

Lastly, I know everyone will argue with me here, but Kobe Bryant should be relegated to the bench for this one All-Star game. And I understand that he is a possible MVP candidate, will probably be selected to the All-defense team once again (although, he doesn’t really deserve it thus far this season), and that he is probably the best player in the NBA. However, Manu Ginobili has been just a tad bit more impressive than Kobe this season, and he is doing more for his team in fewer minutes than #24.
