NFL Predictions Gone Wrong – Part I

I researched and though back to the beginning of the 2007-2008 NFL season to remind myself of some of the silly predictions we all made coming into the season. You would think we got some of them right, and maybe we did, but there is no evidence of it here.

The Chicago Bears will win the NFC North with ease. – Yeah, that’s right; we all thought the Chicago Bears would be dominating the NFC North for yet another season. However, instead of coming in first, the Bears finished in dead last.

Randy Moss and Terrell Owens will ruin the regular seasons of their respective teams. – The media definitely had their microphones ready; just waiting for one of these mal-content wide receivers to explode. Moss was bringing in heavy baggage from his two years with the Raiders, but he turned out to be a standup guy in New England. And we all enlisted the “T.O. Explosion Theory” to come to the conclusion that it would be year 2 in which T.O. would bring a halt to all things good in Dallas. That didn’t happen, and both wide receivers helped lead (yes, that’s right- lead!) their teams to #1 seeds in their conferences.

The New Orleans Saints will win NFC South again. – The Saints were supposed to be on the up and up, but an 0-4 start that began with a season opening thrashing from the Indianapolis Colts proved to be an early end to their playoff hopes.

The Cleveland Browns will be horrible and will start Brady Quinn by Week 4. – The Browns manufactured 10 wins this season, and by week 4, instead of playing the rookie, the Browns found a new potential gunslinger in Derek Anderson.

Stephen Jackson will lead the league in yards from scrimmage yet again. – Stephen Jackson had over 2,300 yards from scrimmage last season, and was a fantasy football favorite to dominate the league once again. But a season later, and 4 games missed in the mist of an injury-riddled season, Jackson barely put half of last year’s total.

The Patriots will go 15-1…14-2…13-3…12-4…11-5…10-6…or whatever! – This is the one that everybody got wrong. It doesn’t matter how many of you had the New England Patriots going 14-2 or 15-1, they beat all the odds and won all 16 games. Sure, there are some pundits who will claim they had them going 19-0 the day they traded for Randy Moss, but those are probably the same people who said he’d ruin the team be Week 3.
