How on Earth can the New York Knicks not make a trade? It is ridiculous that they could sit on their hands during a season where everyone is making deals to win this year or to set themselves up to win in the future.
The Knicks are horrible!
They just are. But to seem okay with it by not making a trade has to be one of the dumbest things ever.
From sources within the organization, the word was that the Knicks were working hard on a trade to try to sell some of its parts, I mean players, to other teams. But they couldn’t get it done.
It’s very hard for me to understand why they couldn’t do. In fact, there is only on reason they couldn’t pull off a trade, and I’ll get to that in a minute. However, in addressing the reasons why they should have been able to make a deal, you’ll find far more evident.
First, they have very talented players. When you look at these players abilities, talents, size, and athleticism, most of the Knicks aren’t just decent players, but they are above average NBA players. Look at Eddy Curry. With his size, quick feet, soft hands, and even softer touch around the rim, he is a great offensive talent at the offensive end. Sure, he slacks on defense, but that’s more a matter of effort that perhaps a good coach, like Pat Riley, could get out of him. And just going down the bench of guys like Quentin Richardson, Stephon Marbury, Jamal Crawford, and Zach Randolph, and you are talking about players that on any given night have the ability to go for 25 points, with the exception of perhaps Quentin Richardson who is a great spot up shooter and could do for a team what Kyle Korver is doing for the Utah Jazz.
Secondly, the Knicks don’t have the ground to ask for much, and they shouldn’t even want anything in return. If they could give Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph away for a bag of basketballs and the other team’s head cheerleader, they should take it and pray that the other team doesn’t make the cheerleader lottery-protected. That’s how desperate the Knicks are right now. And the only way for them to get better is to start over with the young players like Nate Robinson, David Lee, Renaldo Balkman, and maybe Jamal Crawford.
As for why I think Isiah Thomas may not be able to accomplish a trade, I think it may be because he is being blackballed. Not that I actually think that GMs have gotten together for an actual conspiracy, but there is a level of disdain out their Thomas, especially after the way Larry Brown was ousted from the team. A lot of coaches and GMs out there dislike Isiah for treating their “good friend” Brown like that and many of them have publicly talked ill about Isiah for that reason. In addition, if we have learned anything about this season, it is that relationships in this league are more key to making a trade than the actual talent. From Gasol going to Los Angeles to Kurt Thomas going to San Antonio, these general managers that have long-standing relationships with other GMs and coaches have fueled some key trades, especially the lopsided ones.
Nevertheless, I don’t think the there was no one out there willing to make a trade with Isiah; thus, he should have been able to make something happen. This team is an abomination, and the only way to fix an abomination is to blow it up. So assuming he’s around at the end of the season, Isiah had better find a way to make some trades! Moreover, even if he is indeed blackballed, he had better find a way to get Dolan to write some dynamite checks to blow up the Knicks.
