Ana Ivanovic is done!
It’s hard to believe it, but this is the first time since 1967 that the number one seed has lost in the second round of the U.S. Open. Ivanovic lost to 188th ranked Julie Coin 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
I know we don’t talk a lot of tennis at TheSportsWatchers.com—and that will change over the coming weeks—but for a #1 seed to go out so early is almost mind boggling. I mean, the world of tennis has so little regard for its lower-tiered players that many of them aren’t even ranked and they just get pulled out of a hat. For Ivanovic, the world’s best women’s tennis player, to go out so early is highly disappointing to U.S. Open fans, and it won’t serve the ratings all too well.
