The Red Sox' Postseason Is Facing Its End

The Boston Red Sox are on the ropes, and it doesn’t look pretty. They are down to the Tampa Bay Rays 3 games to 1 and have no margin for error. Are the defending champs done?

Look, I’m definitely going out a limb by saying this, but I would have to think that the Rays are going to win this series. Surely, I have to leave room for the idea that the Red Sox can come back from this and win the series, just as they came back from 3-1 hole in last year’s ALCS to win the series. But having being beat up by the Rays in the fashion that they have, I have to believe that the Rays have the ability to finish the Red Sox off for good.

Watching last night’s game was painful. There were stretches of pitches where it just seemed like the Red Sox couldn’t get anyone out. The Rays were just teeing off on one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball like it was nothing. Now the Red Sox have Dice-K coming to the mound following a performance where he certainly had a great end-result, but the Rays did hit him pretty well, they just weren’t able to capitalize with men on base.

But I don’t think that happens in Game 5. Dice-K won’t be able to wiggle himself out of jam after jam this time around. That ability is only as good as it last, and it never last all that long, especially in the post season. With the Rays seeing Dice-K for the second time in just 5 days, they should be well prepped to hit him and hit him well, and the end of ALCS should come to a close on Thursday night.
